Cheswold Police Bike Patrol is Rolling

If you happen to see a couple officers riding by on bikes don’t be alarmed. With the help of State SALLE and Violent Crimes Grant the Cheswold Police Department has purchased two police bicycles and uniforms to begin the Cheswold Police Departments NEW Bike Patrol Unit. Chief Workman and PFC Louis Simms took the bikes out on their inaugural patrol on Monday, July 7th. “The visibility of an officer on a bicycle cannot be matched. With this visibility also comes an increase in human contact with the community. In fact, it is much like the old “Beat Officers” who used to walk the streets. They knew people by name and had a good feel for the neighborhoods at a personal level. Dover man arrested after incident in Cheswold and fighting with Police

ON MAY 2ND, 2014 @ APPROX 2230 CHESWOLD POLICE AND DSP TROOPERS WERE DISPATCHED FOR A COMPLAINT AT THE SHORE STOP LOCATED AT 761 MAIN STREET FOR A REPORT OF A FIGHT OUT , DSP ON LOCATION.   UPON ARRIVAL OFFICERS WERE ADVISED BY THE VICTIM, THAT THREE SUSPECTS, WHO WERE DRIVING WHITE PLYMOUTH NEON, WITH A DELAWARE REGISTRATION NUMBER HAD STOLEN HIS SONS SKATEBOARD FROM THE SIDEWALK AREA ACROSS FROM HIS RESIDENCE ON NEW ROAD. WHEN HE CONFRONTED THE THREE SUSPECTS AT THE SHORE STOP IN CHESWOLD THEY STATED THAT THEY DID NOT STEAL ANYTHING AND REFUSED TO GIVE HIM THE SKATEBOARD.   THE VICTIM STATED THAT HE BLOCKED THE VEHICLE IN TO AWAIT POLICE AND THE SUSPECTS BEGAN SPITTING AND BANGING ON HIS WINDOWS. Tip leads to arrest of Felony Fugitive

On April 9, 2014 Chief Christopher Workman received a tip that was sent to DELJIS regarding a suspect wanted by the Cheswold Police Department since July 6th, 2009 for Rape first degree caused injury and Unlawful Imprisonment First Degree. The tip stated that OLGUENS VOLCY ( an alias of fugitive Olgven Voley) who has been wanted by the Cheswold Police Department was currently residing at an address in Irvington, NJ. Cheswold Police made contact with the US Marshalls office in New Jersey who were able to locate and arrest Mr. Voley, who is currently in custody and awaiting extradition to Delaware to be charged in this case. On July 4th, 2009 Mr Voley allegedly took a female companion to his residence following a church service. Alarm Ordinance Passed in Town of Cheswold to curb false alarm responses

On April 7, 2014 the Town of Cheswold Mayor and Council unanimously passed Ordinance 03-24-14-016 Alarms and Security Systems proposed by the Chief of Police. The purpose of this ordinance is to protect, preserve and promote the health, safety, welfare, peace and quiet for the citizens of the Town of Cheswold through the reduction of false alarms in the Town of Cheswold. The intent of this Ordinance is to establish standards which will eliminate and reduce unnecessary alarms which require the response of the Town of Cheswold Police Department to preserve the life and property of the residents, homes and businesses within the   entire corporate limits of the Town of Cheswold, Kent County – State of Delaware. Cheswold Police Department sponsoring DEA National Drug Take Back Day April 26th

Cheswold, DE– On April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Cheswold Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its eighth opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  Bring your pills for disposal to [site] at [address].  (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.)  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.   Last October, Americans turned in 324 tons (over 647,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at over 4,114 sites operated by the DEA and its thousands of state and local law enforcement partners.  When those results are combined with what was collected in its seven previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners have taken in over 3.4 million pounds—more than 1,700 tons—of pills. IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE – FOX POINT and CHESWOLD RESIDENTS

On February 2, 2014 there were two black males in the area of Fox Pointe who approached a residence and posed as Delmarva Power employees. They were not wearing Delmarva Power uniforms; they were actually wearing matching shirts with a logo that the resident was not familiar with. The suspects were described as one approximately age 18-20, slender built and 5’10”-6’ tall. The other was approximately 22-25 yrs old, stockier built, and about 5’6”-5’8” They approached the door and when confronted for identification they were unable to provide the same. While they did not cause physical harm to the home owner they did display aggressive behavior. When the homeowner advised that she contacted police the suspects left her home and walked to a Silver Toyota Scion driven by another male.
