Police Reports

CHESWOLD POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Cheswold Police Department has a strict policy on the release of personal information, therefore the release of personal information and reports, traffic summons, criminal summons, crime reports and crash reports may only be released under the criteria below. We will only release protected information after obtaining proof of the identities of the persons requesting documents.Seal

Crime Report

  • The Cheswold Police Department is required to give a “Victim’s Copy” of a crime report to any/all victim(s) listed on the report. If you misplaced or require another copy you must arrive in person with a photo ID, however, you may contact the police department at 734-2202 (Mon-Fri, 8:00 AM-3:00 PM) in advance to verify that the report has been processed and is ready to release. (no fee for Victim’s Copies)
  • In the case of a minor child, a custodial parent/legal guardian may obtain the Victim’s Copy; in the case of a deceased victim, the next of kin may obtain it. (Proof of relationship required)
  • Full Copies of crime reports are not released to anyone unless directed by a court-issued subpoena.
  • Insurance companies may request copies of crime reports relating to their insured’s property only; no suspect information is released. Requests must be made in writing, fees apply. The current fee is $25.00 (subject to change without notice)

Crash Report 

  • Drivers or Owners of vehicles involved in a crash may purchase a copy of the crash report. (Driver’s Exchange forms are supplied to the operators of the vehicles involved at the scene)
  • Insurance companies may purchase a copy of crash reports involving their insured via a written request and applicable payment.
  • The current fee for a crash report is $25.00 (subject to change without notice)
  • Contact the Police Department at 734-2202 (Mon- Fri, 8:00 AM-3:00 PM) to verify that the crash report has been processed and is ready to release.
  • Please have the Driver’s Exchange Form (provided at the time of the crash) for reference.

Traffic Ticket/Uniform Traffic Summons

  • If you are issued a Uniform Traffic Summons and lose/misplace your copy of the ticket, you may request another copy.
  • You must appear in person with a photo ID to obtain your copy. No copy fees apply.
  • Or, you may contact any State of Delaware Justice of the Peace Court, in person and request a copy.

Cheswold Town Ordinance

  • If you are issued a Cheswold Town Ordinance Summons and lose/misplace your copy of the ticket, you may request another copy.
  • You must appear in person with a photo ID to obtain your copy. No copy fees apply.

Request for Officers to Appear for Civil Cases

  • All requests for officers to appear in court must be made through court ordered subpoena.
