TOWN OF CHESWOLD POLICE DEPARTMENT

OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE

Cheswold-Patch-2013smOn 9/17/13 at the Town Council Workshop in the Town of Cheswold, Susan Kline of Dover, DE, was sworn in as a full-time police officer for the Town of Cheswold.  Officer Kline had been previously employed by the Town of Cheswold and has knowledge of the area and the Town’s residents. The fact that Patrol Officer Kline was still within her Delaware COPT Certification has allowed us to place an experienced and knowledgeable officer on the street in a relatively short amount of time.

After carefully reviewing many options the Mayor, Town Council and I were looking at ways to better serve the town residents and provide the best police coverage possible. Currently there are two officers covering 5 days per week. With the addition of Officer Kline the officers will change over to a 12 hour schedule, putting a Cheswold Officer on-duty seven (7) days a week and covering hours until at least midnight on weekdays and 2am on weekends. Officers will also be working plain clothes and special operations which is possible through State Grant funds, so there will be other times that we are patrolling the town other than our regularly scheduled shifts.

The hiring of an additional officer also allows us to take some of the burden off of DSP Troop 9 who covers the Town of Cheswold when Cheswold Officers are not on duty.
