Cheswold Police make arrest in Aug. 10th Lottery Ticket theft

TOWN OF CHESWOLD POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE   With the help of surveillance cameras and the release of the photo by news outlets the Cheswold Police Department has made an arrest in the August 10th theft of lottery scratch off tickets, valued at approx. $314.00 (retail) from the Shore Stop on Main Street in Cheswold, DE.   On that date the suspect Ian H. Nadel, a 33 yr old W/M from Smyrna, DE entered the at approx. 2150 hrs and lingered in the store for about 10 minutes speaking on his cell phone near the front counter in the area of the lottery tickets.   A review of the surveillance footage showed the suspect remove a container of scratch off lottery tickets and exit the store. Cheswold Police Bike Patrol is Rolling

If you happen to see a couple officers riding by on bikes don’t be alarmed. With the help of State SALLE and Violent Crimes Grant the Cheswold Police Department has purchased two police bicycles and uniforms to begin the Cheswold Police Departments NEW Bike Patrol Unit. Chief Workman and PFC Louis Simms took the bikes out on their inaugural patrol on Monday, July 7th. “The visibility of an officer on a bicycle cannot be matched. With this visibility also comes an increase in human contact with the community. In fact, it is much like the old “Beat Officers” who used to walk the streets. They knew people by name and had a good feel for the neighborhoods at a personal level. Second Suspect Arrested in 11/26 Shore Stop Robbery

Vontaye Gilbert of Chestertown, MD was arrested on 12/19/13 by Dover PD on outstanding warrants by 5 agencies for armed robberies in Kent County during the months of November and December.  Mr. Gilbert was arraigned on his warrant for the 11/29 early morning robbery of the Shore Stop located at 761 Main St when he allegedly entered the store at approx. 0343 hours after waiting in the lot adjacent to the building with co-conspirator Lytia Bailey (already in custody at WCI) and pointed a gun at the clerk demanding money before fleeing with money and cartons of Newport cigarettes. After a intensive investigation by DSP, MSP and Dover PD the suspects were identified and arrested. Mr. Gilbert was arraigned and ordered held on $60,000 bail for the charges placed on him by the Cheswold Police Department and was transported to Vaughn Correctional for holding.

Cheswold Police charge suspect in Shore Stop Robbery, second suspect identified

Town of Cheswold Police Department Official News Release On 12/04/13 Cheswold Police charged Lytia Bailey, 27 yr old B/F of Chestertown, MD in connection with armed robbery that occurred at the Valero Shore Stop located on Main Street in Cheswold, DE on Nov. 26th @ 3:43 am.   On that date a black male, now identified as Brian Maurice Daniels, 41 yr old B/M from Chestertown, MD entered the Valero Shore Stop and pointed a gun at the clerk demanding money before leaving with cash and cartons of Newport Cigarettes.   Police in conjunction with Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit and Dover PD were able to identify suspects in the incidents.   On 12/4/13 Cheswold PD was notified that a female suspect was in custody at Troop 3 in relation to similar incidents in Kent County. Cheswold Police Family First Fund Toy and Food Drive

The Town of Cheswold Police Department is starting the Cheswold Police Department Family First Fund to assist low and middle income families during the holiday season. Since we are just establishing this charitable organization we are currently asking for donations of unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items (no monetary donations please). These items will be used to help those families in the Town of Cheswold who need a little helping hand this holiday season. You can help by dropping off toys and non-perishable food items to the Town of Cheswold Police Department or Town Hall located at 691 Main St (next to the Shore Stop) Mon through Friday between the hours of 9am and 4 pm between now and December 20th. Cheswold Police 1st National Take Back Day a Success

On Saturday, October 26 from 10am till 2pm the Cheswold Police Department in conjunction with the DEA held its 1st National Take Back Day in the Town of Cheswold. This first initiative was a big success with a steady stream of traffic all day leading to a total of 107.7 lbs of prescription and non prescription drugs being turned in at the Police Deparment druing that time. We would like to thank all of those people who took advantage of the day and look forward to hosting this program again in the future.
