Cheswold Police make arrest in Aug. 10th Lottery Ticket theft

TOWN OF CHESWOLD POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE   With the help of surveillance cameras and the release of the photo by news outlets the Cheswold Police Department has made an arrest in the August 10th theft of lottery scratch off tickets, valued at approx. $314.00 (retail) from the Shore Stop on Main Street in Cheswold, DE.   On that date the suspect Ian H. Nadel, a 33 yr old W/M from Smyrna, DE entered the at approx. 2150 hrs and lingered in the store for about 10 minutes speaking on his cell phone near the front counter in the area of the lottery tickets.   A review of the surveillance footage showed the suspect remove a container of scratch off lottery tickets and exit the store. Alarm Ordinance Passed in Town of Cheswold to curb false alarm responses

On April 7, 2014 the Town of Cheswold Mayor and Council unanimously passed Ordinance 03-24-14-016 Alarms and Security Systems proposed by the Chief of Police. The purpose of this ordinance is to protect, preserve and promote the health, safety, welfare, peace and quiet for the citizens of the Town of Cheswold through the reduction of false alarms in the Town of Cheswold. The intent of this Ordinance is to establish standards which will eliminate and reduce unnecessary alarms which require the response of the Town of Cheswold Police Department to preserve the life and property of the residents, homes and businesses within the   entire corporate limits of the Town of Cheswold, Kent County – State of Delaware. Since the beginning of 2014 we have received more calls for false alarms then all of last year. Cheswold Police Department sponsoring DEA National Drug Take Back Day April 26th

Cheswold, DE– On April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Cheswold Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its eighth opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  Bring your pills for disposal to [site] at [address].  (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.)  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.   Last October, Americans turned in 324 tons (over 647,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at over 4,114 sites operated by the DEA and its thousands of state and local law enforcement partners.  When those results are combined with what was collected in its seven previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners have taken in over 3.4 million pounds—more than 1,700 tons—of pills. IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE – FOX POINT and CHESWOLD RESIDENTS

On February 2, 2014 there were two black males in the area of Fox Pointe who approached a residence and posed as Delmarva Power employees. They were not wearing Delmarva Power uniforms; they were actually wearing matching shirts with a logo that the resident was not familiar with. The suspects were described as one approximately age 18-20, slender built and 5’10”-6’ tall. The other was approximately 22-25 yrs old, stockier built, and about 5’6”-5’8” They approached the door and when confronted for identification they were unable to provide the same. While they did not cause physical harm to the home owner they did display aggressive behavior. When the homeowner advised that she contacted police the suspects left her home and walked to a Silver Toyota Scion driven by another male. Cheswold man flees from officer before crashing vehicle on Brenford Rd

Town of Cheswold Police Department Official News Release: On the 11/8/13 @ approx. 1930 hrs Cpl. Louis Simms was operating stationary radar on Moorton Rd n/o Main St when he clocked a Tan Jeep Liberty speeding in a marked 25 mph zone travelling n/b at 46 mph.   The officer left his position and turned on his lights and sirens in an attempt to stop this vehicle. The vehicle would not stop and traveled at an extreme high rate of speed on Moorton Rd headed towards Brenford Rd. While following the vehicle the officer observed the vehicle run off the roadway several times and failed to maintain his lane. After returning his vehicle to the roadway the vehicle continued to flee the officer eventually disregarded the stop sign at the intersection of Moorton Rd and Brenford Rd.   The vehicle then  went off of the roadway through a wooden fence located at a home on Brenford Rd. and striking a tree […]

Drugs found in Speeding Vehicle – Oct. 30, 2013

On 10/30/13 Cpl. Louis Simms was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Main Street and Moorton Rd in the Town Of Cheswold when his radar clocked a vehicle travelling 39 MPH in a 25 MPH Speed Zone. Cpl. Simms stopped the 2001 Chevy Malibu being operated by Kenyal Stevenson., 19 yr old, B/M of Dover, DE. While speaking with Mr. Stevenson the officer detected a strong odor of what appeared to be marijuana emitting from the vehicle. After questioning Mr. Stevenson regarding the odor, the operator admitted that he was in possession of marijuana and that it was located under the passenger seat of his vehicle.   The officer retrieved the alleged marijuana from its location and performed a further search of the vehicle locating a metal grinder and a digital scale which were confiscated by the officer.   Mr. Stevenson was transported to the Cheswold Police Dept. where […]
